Causes of pimples;
Pimples appear on the face frequently but they may also appear on any part of the body. But it is a fact that it appears on the face of adolescent frequently than adults.
- Clogging/blockage of skin pores; Our skin is the largest organ of our body and the playground of pimples. It has two layers, one which is visible is the outer layer referred to as the epidermis, which contains a chemical substance known as melanin, responsible for skin colour. The inner layer is called the dermis contains sebaceous glands including blood vessels, nerves, hair roots, sweat glands, etc. Sebaceous glands have tiny pores through which sebum (a group of complex oil) comes out on the skin’s surface. Sometimes the pores get clogged with dead skin cells and dirt from surroundings, and oil can’t escape to the skin, causing swelling. The white corpuscles, the body’s protective agents rushed to the spot and form pus around the gland, and pimples form.
- Excess of Sebum Production; Sebum is healthy for the skin, if it is produced in regulated quantities, as it moisture the skin and protects against dryness of the skin. But if it is produced in excess quantities, clogging of pores happens causing acne and pimples produced.
- Bacteria; Another cause is infections by staph /staphylococcus bacteria. These bacteria are around us all the time on our skin, in our noses, on the surface, and so on. They cause infections like inflamed skin blemishes when the skin surface is scratched or cut.
- Hormones; Hormones play a very vital role in overall biological functions. Androgen hormones stimulate the production of sebum. During adolescence more androgen hormones are secreted, causing more production of oil leading to the growth of pimples.
- Poor hygiene and excessive sweating; Poor hygiene is one of the major factors of pimples. Sweating may clear the pores but the presence of dirt, dead cells, and oil block the pores causing the development of acne.
- Stress; Stress asks the body to produce more hormones like cortisol and cortisol tells the sebaceous glands to produce more sebum/ oil. Oily skin is again more prone to acne and pimples.
- Side effects of medicine and unhealthy food habits; Pimples are also caused due to side effects of medicines, and the intake of unhealthy foods like soft drinks, soda, white bread, cake, junk foods, spicy rich foods, and all carbohydrate-rich foods.
